Screen printing is used to print onto many surfaces and even though it is quite an old process, it is still a very effective method of printing onto many diffrent mediums.
The process starts with the artwork (once approved by you) being cut out in black vinyl or printed out on clear transparencey like sheets. These positives are then layed out on a chemically coated screen and baked with a very bright light. The screen is then washed out, but only the unbaked chemicals dissolve leaving a negative image of your artwork. Remember that each colour is done seperately on the same screen or diffrent screens if the artwork is too big (ie banners)
Next the screen is clamped onto a special vacume table and doubled checked, the chemical coat is not perfect and as such may need some blocking on areas that are not met to be open. The item to be printed is lined up on the table according to the screen and printing can begin. Priting is done by pulling waterproof ink across the screen to reproduce the text or logo on a board or sticker.
Each colour is then printed in a specific order with time between each colour to wait for drying, weather and tempratures can affect this time. Screen printing is usually only used for more than ten boards or 100 stickers as, below that it is not cost effective and vinylor full colour prints may be used.
Screen printing can include spot colours (single clearly defined colours), or half tones e.g. Photo. We do not do full colour screen printing but can do up to 5 or more spot colours. Chat to us about your art work and let us help you chose the right advertising mediums.
